There's a clown in every group - someone who has to ruin the perfect moment by acting out.
The image in today's post, Gabrielle d'Estrées et une de ses soeurs and it cause quite a ruckus when it was first issued.
Gabrielle, of course is the center of attention in this work because she is the mistress of King Henry IV of France. Art historians are at a loss to explain why Gabrielle (on the right) is bathing with her sister! The painting caused a terrific stir in France when it was revealed because Gabrielle's sister shouldn't have been in the tub with her when she tweaked her sister's bosom. No; rules dictate that such an action happens only when one kneels next to the tub, but not in it with the one to be tweaked. Honestly.
And you just know the French; they are sticklers for all things proper.
i'm a bit upset with you.....it seems that much of "esther" is uploaded & i was entertaining a thought of possibly starting another site, this one filled with stuff i've accumulated and/or like. and one of those things? this very picture! it's on my refrigerator right now!
