Our taxes are paid. So is the grocery bill.
Well, thanks to the President, and despite revving up our paycheck deductions, we owe Uncle Sam. So for the third year in a row, the government has grabbed us by the ankles and has shaken every last kopeck out of our bank account.
So. Much. Winning.
And the tax thing has hit my cousins hard as well, the successful and the not so successful.
Said my cousin Louise: "It looks like a fish stick and Spam year ahead again, if I could find Spam or the Gorton's of Glouchester Fisherman, anywhere.
Louise has a point. Not even the depression or WWII have American grocer stores been this depleted.
Oh, you can find stale Circus Peanuts, or jarred Escargot. But who eats that stuff daily or even on rare occasions?
Still, we keep a stiff upper lip. The Brits have their "Keep Calm & Carry On".
The American way is to stop needless noise and keep the nation calm.
But I am wondering if we should start raising our voices and having them heard before it really is too late.

we managed to get a refund this year due to spouse's medical bills. and our "stimulus" checks are pending being deposited in the bank. we are still earning our salaries cause we are working; it's just fucking boring working from home.
ReplyDeleteWe in the UK have "pay as you earn" taxes so these things don't crop up annually (unless you happen to be self-employed). What we have had to face in varying degrees, however, are empty shelves (dried pasta, bog-roll, tinned tomatoes and baked beans and flour being the most incomprehensibly "in demand") and the endless six-foot-apart queuing just to get into the supermarkets, let alone at the tills... Oh, and every Thursday at 8pm everyone (English-speaking, at least) stands on the doorstep to clap, cheer and generally make noise to applaud health and care workers in the NHS and everyone still working at the front-line. It's a necessary noise. Jx
ReplyDeleteThis President only 'fixed' Taxes for the Billionaire Boys Club Cronies... I haven't heard anyone say they did better under this Administration. The illusion of Prosperity became evident with amazing clarity once one missed Paycheck due to Pandemic caused economic hardship for damned near the entire Country! One missed paycheck! And despite a long Bull Market, how and Why did highly successful Big Business suddenly need a Bailout of Trillions of Dollars after a relatively brief closure? Things that make ya go humnnn. And the shortages due to Panic Buying, well, if people would just have kept saner heads they probably would have had ample product, since most Production, in the beginning, wasn't interrupted. Now of coarse Meat Packing Plants are a veritable Petri Dish for the Virus due to poor working conditions that have always existed and should have been corrected for the sake of the Employees health and well being. This Pandemic is exposing a lot of Social Ills in so many ways.
