Today he seems the epitome of obviousness, but back then he was considered by many women to be quite the catch. The Chordettes particularly admired his "wavy hair." --Jim
Would you believe that I took care of Liberace's father. When I was a young gayling I worked as a CNA. Sam was mentally half-in and half out. He could get very agitated and other times was peaceful and pleasant. George, Liberace's brother-who was a great musician in his own right, would take care of the father and Lee would take care of the mother. George was a nice unassuming man. He never touted who is father's famous son was. He was most embarrassed on some of the antics his father would display. One day when Sam was in a good place I asked him about his son. Why didn't he marry. He looked at me and calmly said "He was too busy with the boys." Liberace did visit his father before I started working. He donated a stereo to the facility. One of those cabinets that had a radio, record player, and would also hold records. There was a plaque inside stating who donated it. I worked them for about a year and never saw Lee visit.
I would agree that back in the day he was the epitome of obviousness and yet, a lot of Women actually thought he wanted a Woman. What can I say... an Era of naivete' existed IMO for so many people being oblivious, I once recall my Dear Mom saying that a certain Woman was very Flamboyant, my Brother and I had to inform her, well, it's coz she's a Hooker, Mom!
for her to be his beard.
