Still here

Cookie admits it. He has been quieter than usual.

I had forgotten how dreadfully dreary in winter Cleveland can be.  Still, we go through each day as best as we can.  But dear God where or where is the sun?  Today was rainy and then the fog swept in while I was running an errand on the west side. While heading east on 490 to get to the Opportunity Corridor (a fairly new road that connects University Circle to I-77 and points west) as I drove past "Steel Valley" I could not see the huge steel plant or three car lengths in front of me.  But I made it back unscathed.

We are still unpacking, though at a much slower pace.

One of the unpleasant surprises about the new Maison d'Cookie is that our furniture doesn't fit in many instances.  We have too many side chairs and too many side tables.  We also have too many windows that don't have UV Glass, so the art that we had on walls in the old house can't be placed in many places for fear it will fade.

But we are through Christmas, and we are meeting new people.

And I am going places that are totally new - Like Cleveland's West side and burbs. I am finding out that the chain stores out that way are really superior to what we have on the east side.

One thing that has me concerned is that I have been having some memory issues, which I am attributing to having so much on my mind.  Oy!  New traffic patterns, and new routes, and I am still conquering a lot of the agoraphobia I developed during COVID.  I'll get there, and some sunlight will help.

In any event, on to New Year's.

There is a lot to do and get done in 2024 and I am looking forward to it all.  The people we have met around here are beyond wonderful.  And that makes it all worthwhile.

  1. If the "new people" you are meeting are anything like the divine Miss Alla Nazimova, than your future entertainments are secure! Jx

PS We've looked at a few places in past moves that we turned down entirely on the basis that there was no room to arrange the right type of furniture in the right places - hey ho, auction time's a-beckoning.

  2. Cleveland can be gloomy, but also, you moved there right at the start of the cooler season and shorter days, so things should improve. This last year in Taipei has been the rainiest ever--about 80% of the days have had some rain, but it seems that whenever I call my family they are always telling me the the recent weather has been sunny.

About the windows, you can get UV-blocking film for them, which I understand is not that expensive.

    1. Oh, that film? Its on my list. It doesn't block it all, but it does a good job. That and canvas awnings.

  3. Diva del film Nazimova come la nostre dive del cinema Europa,
Lyda Borelli - Italia, Musidora - Francia, Henny Porten - Germania,
Gladys Cooper - Inghilterra e la diva super-star Asta Nielsen - Danimarca.
Il dive - donne capricciose di bellezza, eccentricita e spirito acuto.

    1. Oh, Cleveland is a cultural destination. Our art museum is second only to the Met in New York, or symphony is the same. And so much more going on here.

  4. Glad that you are settling in!! I have my map up reading your post. I have never been to Cleveland but I do like that it is butting up against the water. I read that Cleveland does get the lake snow affect like Chicago. I live in Denver and this is my snow line. I lived in DC and the snow was just like it is in Denver BUT nothing further North for me. I did live in Michigan -Kincheloe AFB-and Grand Forks, North Dakota-Grand Forks AFB- so I have seen snow. Snow back in the day was REAL snow-blizzards and all. With all this climate change the snow does come as fierce as before but every once in awhile you will have doozy plow through.

It seems what you are experiencing is what they call "COVID Fog." I have been hearing stories of folks really being affected long-term with COVID. And some folks talk about the COVID Fog but as days go forward they are improving. Looks like another round of COVID is making its round in our fair United States. I am boosted-that is not the correct term the CDC wants us to use-and flued to the hilt. Bring it on.

Wishing you and hubby nothing but the best in the New Year. I know for sure once the house is in order and the invitations are sent Cookie and the Misses will be the toast of the town. An invitation sought after.

    Best of health!!

    XO

  5. Glad you're getting settled in. It is difficult to find placement when some of our Cargo doesn't fit after a Big Move. Happy New Year.

    1. Yeah. Everything had a place in the old house, but though being equal in square feet, it doesn't fit in this house because we have less wall space.
